TRADITIONAL HOMESTEAD in the South-East of Slovenia

There is no better way to get away from the stress and strains of modern living than to take a short break somewhere in the countryside, even just for a day. Experience a day in greenery and peace, connected to nature and people, their culture, life wisdom, customs and cuisine. After a productive and successful meeting in the city, why not visit a quaint little town Ribnica, South-East of Ljubljana, known for its local wooden craft and its sense of humor.

At a traditional homestead where local history and the past are intertwined with the present day, the visitors will be greeted by a warm welcome and refreshments in an old locksmiths and blacksmiths workshop. They will learn about the history and the people of the region as well as about the homestead itself, a birthplace of one of the most important Slovenian linguists.

At the newly refurbished and renovated homestead, and its old barn that has been transformed into a spacious seminar hall, a local craftsman will demonstrate how to make the famous wooden craft products from this region. The guest will also get a chance to test their own craft skills.

During their visit, the guests will try delicious local products from the local producers, like cider, cheese and organic sausages. In the old family building, a skilled chef will prepare a traditional meal directly from the old wood fired bread oven, that was once used by the family. The desert and coffee will be served next-door in a family house.

The visit would not be completed without visiting the first Slovenian honey cellar just a few steps away from the homestead. Hear the story of local beekeepers, taste delicious honey as well as honey wine and honey sparkling wine.

The visit of this idyllic homestead can be pared with a visit of the wild beauties and the secret forest of Kočevsko, an adventurous destination in the heart of the Dinaric forest and a home of the brown bear.
